Schedule with Marissa

Hello, I’m Marissa. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a deep passion for supporting couples and individuals in building stronger, more fulfilling relationships. I understand the courage it takes to seek marriage and relationship support and honor that trust by providing a safe and empowering environment for my clients.

My work is centered on helping couples uncover their emotional needs, navigate relationship challenges, and rediscover connection. I specialize in tailoring therapy to each couple’s unique dynamic, helping them foster emotional safety, emotional and sexual intimacy, and meaningful communication as they work toward greater fulfillment in their relationships and overall lives. I greatly enjoy working with clients that are overcoming entrenched patterns of high conflict as well as those that are in newer relationships seeking premarital counseling or dating support. In addition to my work with couples, I provide therapy for individuals wanting support with anxiety, depression, and trauma. My approach is grounded in cultural sensitivity, creating a welcoming space for individuals and couples of all faiths, genders, ethnicities, and sexual orientations.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine, and my Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience working with couples, individuals, and families in various settings, including outpatient, intensive-outpatient, and partial-hospitalization programs. I have a special interest in working with those within the military and veteran community, including couples and spouses. My greatest passion lies in working with couples and individuals on strengthening the relationships they have with themselves and others.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in attachment theory and integrates modalities such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). With training through the ICEEFT EFT Externship I bring research-based and highly effective tools to my work with couples. In addition, I have completed Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy Level One training to better support individual adults with trauma, anxiety, and depression.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy connecting with nature on long walks, creating new memories with my fiancée and loved ones, and exploring the wonderful coffee shops throughout beautiful San Diego County!
