Integrative Couples Therapy, based in Encinitas, California, is seeking a licensed couples therapist to join our team. The ideal candidate has completed professional clinical training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and is passionate about helping others strengthen relationships. Integrative Couples Therapy is a small and serene group practice that is uplifting and supportive. Our therapists are experienced, confident, warm, compassionate, and have a strong desire to provide excellent therapy services. This is the perfect position for a therapist that wants to immerse in boutique practice setting, without having to run their own business. Our administrative team handles marketing and most administrative tasks while therapists focus on client care. This position is best suited for a therapist seeking a career as a couples therapist in an office based setting. We are located in Encinitas, CA and most client sessions are conducted in person.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Present with warmth and professionalism in interactions with ICT team, community members, prospective clients, and clients.

  • Conduct intakes and assessments with couples.

  • Conduct ongoing weekly couples therapy.

  • Conduct individual, family, and group therapy.

  • Complete treatment plan and progress notes within 24 hours of appointments.

  • Manage caseload and maintain availability requirements.

  • Respond to internal and client communication promptly ideally by the end of each work day, and within 24 hours.

  • Attend meetings as assigned.

  • Engage in ongoing training including research, consultations, and clinical trainings.

Skills and Experience: 

  • Strong skills in the areas of alliance building and emotional attunement.

  • Clear understanding of at least one couples therapy model and theory of change.

  • Empathic, compassionate, and engaging demeanor.

  • Confident and experienced in working with highly escalated couples.

  • Able to maintain self-regulation and provide co-regulation to clients.

  • Attachment, nervous system, and trauma-informed clinical orientation.

  • Skilled in couples therapy assessment, treatment planning, and progress notes.

  • Well defined personal protocol for self care, support, and self-of-the-therapist material.

  • Experience providing ongoing weekly couples therapy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MA, MS, PsyD, or PhD

  • Current Licensed Therapist with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences in good standing.

  • Completion of the Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy Externship within three months of hiring.

  • At least one year experience conducting ongoing weekly couples therapy with at least 3 different couples.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate is experienced in at least one of the following areas, in addition to couples therapy: perinatal mental health, parenting support, trauma, anxiety, and family therapy.

  • The ideal candidate has completed or registered for the Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy Externship prior to interviewing.

  • Are passionate about individual therapy and see yourself as an “individual therapist” or “mental health therapist” or are trained in and want to utilize behavioral models. We appreciate, refer to, and coordinate care with therapists that focus on individual therapy, mental health, and behavior. If you are dedicated to couples therapy AND individual therapy you likely to be a good fit. Yet if you primarily want to work with individuals you will be better served in another setting.

  • Are looking for a therapy practice where you can attain experience in couples therapy to see if you like it. We specialize in couples therapy and we are committed to delivering high quality couples therapy services. If you are not experienced in couples therapy yet, we encourage you to contact us in the future after you have completed the Emotionally Focused Therapy Externship training and have been conducting couples therapy for one year with at least three couples.

  • Are not interested in obtaining ongoing professional clinical training in couples therapy. We believe that in order to deliver high quality couples therapy that ongoing professional training and consultation is necessary.

  • Thrive as a generalist working with a wide variety of presenting problems, ages, services, and populations. This is great! However, almost all our clients are couples with similar dilemmas.

  • Are seeking to work in virtual therapy practice. We understand! Yet the majority of our clients come to therapy in person and we are not able to fill the client portfolios of virtual therapists.

  • Have a private therapy or coaching practice or aim to start your own therapy or coaching practice within the next two years. This is great yet we are seeking therapists that have a desire to immerse at our practice full-time.

Important Information About This Position:

We are specifically seeking therapists that have completed the EFT Externship. We are also seeking therapists with experience in couples therapy and one or more of the following areas: trauma, EMDR, anxiety, perinatal mental health, family therapy, and parenting support.
